The Naxi people of Lijiang, China

They tell me that five years ago, Lijiang Old Town was the only commercial part of Lijiang, and was home to ordinary things like butcher shops, tailors and street markets.  But in the last five years, western modernization and tourism have made it a tourist attraction instead, with an entire new downtown springing up around it.  So today you have Naxi farmers who live much the same as they did hundreds of years ago, except with cigarettes and electricity, and five star hotels and cybercafes up the street.
