| Above is a map of China and nearby
parts of Asia: my trip took me from Chicago to Los Angeles to Taipei,
Taiwan (island on the lower right) to Hong Kong (just west of Taiwan)
then west to Kunming.
Kunming is in the lower center of the map, north of Laos and Vietnam. After Kunming, I went to where my brother Bryan lives in Lijiang (see the Yunnan province map below) which is a few hundred miles northwest of Kunming, near the Yangtze river. Below: Yunnan province, which borders Vietnam, Laos, and Burma, situated near Tibet. North Yunnan province has a high altitude and forms the foothills of the Himalayas. The south has humid rainforests. Lijiang is in the north part of the map below: |
